FAQs

I've never done yoga before. Can I still come to Anahata?

Absolutely! Anahata is equally beneficial for absolute beginners as well as advanced practitioners. Experience with yoga is not necessary - an open heart and mind is what is important. Come and learn Yoga practices such as Pawanmuktasana parts 1, 2 and 3. The Pawanmuktasana practices help to improve joint range of motion and core strength, as well as release energetic blocks in the body. And they are simple and gentle enough for anyone to perform.

Can yoga help me to relax or sleep better?

Yes! The combination of asana (posture) classes and Yoga Nidra help the body and the nervous system to release both acute and chronic physical, mental, and emotional tension. Quality of sleep can improve enormously with regular practice over time. General stress levels can also be significantly reduced.

What is the meaning of the word 'Anahata'

Anahata is the fourth primary chakra according to the Yogic and Tantric (Shakta) traditions. In Sanskrit the word anahata - means unhurt, un-struck and unbeaten. It refers to the Vedic concept of unstruck sound, the sound of the celestial realm.

The Anahata chakra is physically positioned at the heart region. Traditionally, this chakra is represented as a green flower with twelve petals. Anahata chakra symbolizes the consciousness of love, empathy, selflessness and devotion. On the psychic level, this centre of force inspires the human being to love, be compassionate, altruistic, devoted, and to accept the things that happen in a divine way.

What is an ashram?

Ashram means place of work, or place of sadhana. It is an embodiment of simple living, where anyone can go to leave the distractions of the world behind and come home to themselves. Ashrams have a set routine encompassing various different practices that help to purify the body and mind, and help people to develop a positive attitude and an understanding of selfless service.

Traditionally in India it is recommended that everyone spend two weeks every year in an ashram to regain a more balanced perspective on life.
